Then one day I was on Facebook reading updates (as I tend to obsessively do) and I saw another friend from St. Mike’s, Denise, post something about “Tommy coming home.” She usually posts pics of her two year old son – which I always love to see but t I admittedly didn’t know much else about what was going on in her life these days. That day I did look a little deeper and realized that Tommy was her husband and he was going to be home from Afghanistan for two weeks. I immediately got teared up.

I look up and suddenly my smile freezes. Everything slows down. My senses are on high alert. I focus on the details as I scramble to process them: at the end of her arm is a hand.
